A
report from the BBC has warned that a new superbug has entered UK hospitals.
Thought to be carried back from India by patients undergoing cosmetic surgery, NDM-1 is resistant to even the most powerful antibiotics.
NDM-1 can exist inside bacteria, like E.coli, and experts fear the bug could spread to other forms of bacteria.
Researchers say that the only way to stop NDM-1 is to identify and isolate infected patients. Normal infection control measures such as disinfecting hospital equipment, can stop the bug from spreading.
